Patch Testing

We make every effort to ensure that Naturally Wight formulas are free of as many common allergens as possible. We have many, many customers with extremely sensitive skin, skin issues like eczema and rosacea and eyes that can only use Naturally Wight's products since it is so gentle and free of common irritants. Many of them actually notice that their skin issues improve when they switch to Naturally Wight's  products exclusively. Even so, there are people out there allergic to everything. If you are sensitive we urge you to purchase samples first and do a patch test before starting general use.

What is patch testing? Patch testing is a way of determining if a product that comes in contact with the skin will cause inflammation of the skin (contact dermatitis). Again, if you have a history of being sensitive to products applied to the skin or eyes it is essential that you perform a patch test before beginning general use.

Why should I patch test? If you have reacted to products applied to the skin or eyes in the past, have persistent or unusual eczema or have been diagnosed by your dermatologist as having allergic contact dermatitis a patch test is necessary to determine if Naturally Wight products are compatible with your skin.

How do I perform a patch test? Apply the product to an area of your face that is not overtly apparent such as your jaw line or on your neck near your ear. Leave on the skin for a full day. If you are testing an eye product, apply it to one eye on the weekend at night when you know you will not go out. If you do have a reaction the extra time during sleep and over the weekend will give your eye time to recover. If you have any redness, swelling or discomfort remove the product immediately from the skin with your face wash and cease all use. Any reaction means that you are likely allergic to one or multiple ingredients in the product.

If I have a reaction, what is it? In general, the reaction is called 'allergic contact dermatitis'. This is an allergic reaction to a substance (or group related substances) referred to as an allergen. An allergy is a hypersensitivity or oversensitivity to a particular substance involving the immune system. When allergic contact dermatitis exists a rash will develop. If a rash develops stop using the product immediately, clean the area removing the product from the skin and the rash will disappear.

Try samples first. Naturally Wight offers samples of all our products so you can test before you commit to a full size. Alternatively if you are an Isle of Wight resident, we offer appointments by arrangement where you can sample Naturally Wight products and discuss your skincare regime.

Let us know! If you have a reaction please let us know by emailing us via our contact page. We do everything possible to remove all common irritants from our formulas and are always looking for ways to make our products more compatible for people with very sensitive skin. If you are one of the minority of customers who does have an allergic reaction, we are willing to work with you to formulate a bespoke product that is suitable for you. If you wish Naturally Wight to formulate a bespoke range of products for you there will be a charge for this service.
